Validity period of 90 days

The Indonesia visa has a validity period of 90 days starting from the moment when the immigration service approves your visa application. This means that once your visa application is approved, you have 90 days to travel to Indonesia. Please note that this doesn’t mean that you can stay in Indonesia for 90 days.

The e-visa Indonesia allows you to stay in the country for a maximum of 30 days. It does not matter whether you arrive in Indonesia on day 20 or day 80 of the validity period. As long as you arrive in Indonesia during the 90-day validity period, you are allowed to stay in the country for 30 days. The allowed 30-day stay can be extended once after arrival.

Apply for a visa for a stay of 30 days in Indonesia

Extend your visa for a stay of 60 days

After your arrival in the country, you will be able to extend the authorised stay of 30 days of the Indonesia visa. This must be done at the immigration office. After extending your visa, you will be allowed to stay in Indonesia for a maximum of 60 days in total. You may visit Bali, Java, Lombok and all other islands of Indonesia during your stay. Since this is a single-entry visa, you are not allowed to leave Indonesia and then enter the country again with the same visa.

How can I extend my visa for Indonesia?

Do you want to extend the length of stay of the Indonesia e-visa after arriving in the country? This can be done only once at the immigration office. Indonesia has more than 100 different immigration offices, with at least one immigration office per province. The well-known islands of Bali, Java and Lombok, among others, have several immigration offices where you can extend the authorised duration of your stay. Please note that immigration offices are closed on public holidays in Indonesia.

When you extend the length of stay of your visa, you still have to meet the visa requirements. In addition, you must bring the following documents:

  • your passport;
  • a copy of your visa (a printed e-visa is enough for this purpose);
  • a copy of your flight ticket for your return flight from Indonesia.

Please note that the immigration service will charge a fee for processing your application and granting the extension of your visa. It is advisable to extend the length of stay in time, so that you will always have a valid visa during your stay in Indonesia. Do this at least 1 week before the end of the current authorised stay. If you find it difficult to arrange the extension yourself, you can use the services of an intermediary who can support you in this process.

Alternatives to extending your visa

Because extending the authorised length of stay of your visa can be complicated and is generally time-consuming, it is recommended to apply in advance for a visa with the right validity period for your travel plans. Do you want to stay in Indonesia longer than 60 days? Then apply for a visa through the embassy of Indonesia. At the embassy, you can apply for visas for travel purposes other than tourism, as well as for multiple-entry visas or tourist visas valid for 60 days or longer, among other things.

When applying for a visa through the embassy, keep in mind that you have to visit the embassy twice; once to submit your passport and a second time to pick up your passport with your visa stamped on it. Therefore, for a 30-day tourist stay in Indonesia, it is easier to apply for the visa online. Submitting an online application is also cheaper.

If you applied online for a visa with an authorised stay of 30 days, you can still extend your authorised stay once in Indonesia. You can also leave Indonesia within these 30 days and then apply again for an online visa from abroad. Once this visa is granted, you will be allowed to stay in Indonesia for another 30 days. Therefore, you do not necessarily have to apply for an extension, you can simply apply for a new visa online.

What if I exceed the authorised lenght of stay?

You must leave Indonesia no later than the last day of the authorised period of stay your visa. If you do not leave Indonesia on time, you run the risk of being fined or prosecuted. Therefore, always respect the validity of your visa and, if necessary, apply in time for an extension of the authorised duration of stay.
