Information about the Kenya visa

Are you going on a holiday or business trip to Kenya in 2023 or 2024? Then you will need a visa. The visa requirement applies to all nationals within the European Union, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom. There are only two exceptions to this. Children under the age of 16 at the time of arrival in Kenya, and Cyprus nationals may enter Kenya visa-free.

What kind of visa do I need for my trip to Kenya? For a holiday, business trip or visiting friends or family in Kenya, you can use the Kenya e-visa. This allows you to stay in the country for up to 90 days. You can apply for the Kenya visa online. In the application form, specify your travel purpose. The form will then recommend the correct e-visa for your purposes. Since 2021, it is no longer possible to obtain business and tourist visas at the embassy.

The Kenya visa is valid for 90 days

Your Kenya e-visa is valid for 90 days.
The validity period (the period during which you may enter Kenya) is 90 days. This period starts when your visa is granted. You can submit your application long before departure if needed. Your visa is never granted more than 30 days before departure, so it will still be valid when you travel.

The maximum length of stay in Kenya is always 90 days. You are allowed to enter Kenya any day within that 90 day validity period. You are then allowed to stay for 90 days from the moment of entry. You can also extend the maximum length of stay after arrival.

What else you should keep in mind?

You must adhere to some visa requirements when travelling to Kenya:

  • Upon arrival in Kenya, you must provide the same passport as the one used to apply for the visa. This passport must be valid for at least six more months upon arrival and must contain three blank pages. At that time, you must also be able to present on arrival a booking confirmation of your return or onward journey to another country.
  • Are you travelling for tourism? If so, you must also provide a booking confirmation of your first night's accommodation in addition to your online visa application. You must also print this document and bring it with you to Kenya.
  • Will you be staying overnight with friends or family living in Kenya? Then the person you are staying with must write a letter of invitation, and provide a photo or scan of their Kenyan ID card, Kenyan passport or Foreigner Certificate. You must attach these documents to your visa application online. You must also print the invitation letter and bring it with you on your trip.
  • Are you travelling for business? A business visa allows you to attend business meetings and provide services in Kenya. You may not be employed by a Kenyan employer or do volunteer work. During the online application process, you must provide a letter of invitation from the organization you will be visiting. You must also print this invitation letter and take it with you on your trip.

The application procedure of the Kenya e-visa

Applying for the Kenya visa is easy with the online application form. You will find a clear explanation of what to fill in at each field. After completing the form, you make the payment. This can be done with credit card or PayPal. For the last step of the process, you will be asked to provide some documents digitally. If you do not have these on hand, you can do so at a later time. These include the documents mentioned above, as well as a passport scan and a passport photograph of each traveller applying for a Kenya visa.

Once submitted, your application will be carefully checked by the visa specialists at e-Visa.ie. Does any information appear to be incorrect or incomplete, or are there any issues with the submitted documents? Then you will be assisted in correcting your application. Once your application is complete, it will be submitted for you to the immigration office in Kenya.

Paying for and receiving your visa

The Kenya visa will be sent via email within 9 days on average, counting from the moment you have provided all the required documents in good order and paid the Kenya visa fee. These costs total € 89,95 per visa (including a € 40,54 service fee and a 52,53 USD consular fee).

Do you need your visa urgently? For an additional fee of € 17,50, you can reduce the average delivery time to 3 days. Note that all delivery times are averages and not maximum delivery times. Delivery times can never be guaranteed due to the possibility of background checks. Therefore, it is preferable to submit your application at least several weeks before departure.

e-Visa.ie is a commercial and professional visa agency, and supports travellers in obtaining, among others, the Kenya visa. e-Visa.ie acts as an intermediary and is in no way part of any government. You can also apply for a visa directly with the immigration service (52,53 USD per visa, via dis.ecitizen.go.ke). However, not with our level of support. If you submit your application via e-Visa.ie, our support centre is available to you 24/7. In addition, we manually check your application and all the documents you provide before submitting it to the immigration authorities on your behalf. If we suspect any errors or omissions while doing so, we will personally contact you to ensure that your application can still be processed quickly and correctly. To use our services, you pay us 52,53 USD in consular fees, which we pay to the immigration service on your behalf, as well as € 40,54 in service fees as compensation for our services, including VAT. Our services have saved many travellers from major problems during their trip. Should an application be rejected despite our support and verification, we will refund the full purchase price (unless an application for a previous Kenya visa was rejected for the same traveller).
