In any of these cases, please apply for a visa through the Turkish government.

Please Note: Do you want to stay in Turkey for less than 90 days on a holiday or business trip? If you are a national of the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, or any other country in the European Union, as of 2020, you no longer need a visa for these purposes.

Permitted travel purposes: tourism and business

The first requirement is related to your travel purpose. You can only apply for a Turkey visa if your travel purpose is tourism or business related.

A tourist travel purpose can be visiting Turkey for a holiday, or visiting friends or family. Following a course can also be a tourist purpose, as long as you do not have any business interests in following that course. Making a cruise trip and going ashore in Turkey can also be considered a tourist travel purpose. However, if you are going on a cruise, you can make use of the exception rule with which you can stay ashore in Turkey without a visa for 72 hours.

What is a business travel purpose?

Under a business travel purpose are understood: travelling to Turkey for a visit to a (potential) client or supplier, establishing contacts, and visiting conferences and training. You are not allowed to enter into service with a Turkish employer. Meaning, you have to officially be employed by a company in your home country, but that company is allowed to be paid by a Turkish organisation in order to allow you to perform work. Not allowed with the Turkey visa

In certain situations it is not allowed to apply for a visa for Turkey online. In the following cases, the requirements for the Turkey visa are not being met:

  • Truck drivers driving to Turkey for their job
  • Individuals wanting to record a documentary in Turkey
  • Archaeologists performing field research in Turkey
  • Individuals who wish to enter into employment with a Turkish employer
  • Individuals who wish to study at a Turkish educational institution
Each traveller needs their own visa, including children

Each traveller required to have a visa needs their own, including children
All travellers that fall under the Turkey visa requirement must possess their own Turkey visa. Travelling with children? Then they need to have their own visas as well; even if they are minors. In that case, you can enter the passport details of the child and the parents' names in the application form. The parent in question then has to travel with them as well.

Requirements for your passport or identity card

One of the requirements for the e-visa for Turkey is that you have a nationality that makes you eligible to apply online. These travellers need a passport with a remaining validity of 60 days after the last day they are allowed to be in Turkey with the visa. This same condition regarding passport validity applies to travellers who do not need a visa for their trip. If you do not require a visa for a 90 day stay, and you travel with your passport, then your passport needs to be valid for at least another 150 days upon arrival in Turkey. If you do not need a visa and you can travel with your country's (in Europe) national ID card, then you should check the information on the page regarding travelling to Turkey with a passport or an ID card. The requirements may vary per ID card.

Are you a status holder and only have a residence document or permit for a Schengen country, for Ireland, the United Kingdom or the United States? Then in some cases, you may still be able to obtain your visa online through the Turkish government. Travellers who qualify for a business or tourist trip to Turkey with their ID card do not need the Turkey visa. Can you travel to Turkey without a visa and with an ID card, but do not meet each of the other requirements for these travel purposes? Then you do need another, physical visa. In this case, you apply for this through a Turkish consulate or the Turkish embassy for your country.

Requirements for stay

Do you require a visa for Turkey and are you eligible for the e-visa? Then you can travel to Turkey as soon as the validity period of your visa begins. This is the date you filled in on the application form, and can be found displayed on the Turkey visa itself. However, you cannot stay in Turkey for more than 90 days or 30 days, depending on your nationality specific conditions. You must also leave Turkey 180 days after the starting date of the visa. Read more about the validity period of the Turkey Visa.

If you meet all the requirements

Do you meet all of the Turkey visa requirements mentioned above? Then you can apply for your Turkey visa online right away. This can be done by pressing the green button below and opening the application form, and filling it in for yourself and any travellers that will be going with you to Turkey (urgent applications are also possible).

What to do if you do not meet the requirements

Don’t meet one or several of the Turkey visa requirements mentioned on this page? Then you cannot apply for the visa online. It is possible, however, that you qualify for a physical visa. You will have to pick it up yourself at a Turkish embassy or consulate near you. Take note: applying for a physical visa is more expensive and takes more time than an online visa. Make sure to submit your visa application at a timely date.
