Is your passport expiring soon?

Provide a photo or scan of your passport

Once you have completed the online application form for the Egypt visa, you must submit a passport scan or photo. You can do this online from your computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. There is no need to send it by mail. You will receive an e-mail explaining how to submit your photo or scan. If you open that email from your phone, you can simply select a passport photo/scan that you have previously taken with your phone.

The immigration authorities in Egypt are very strict regarding the approval of passport scans. The passport must be in full view. There can be no fingers covering any part of your passport, as this can cause problems. All the information on your passport must also be clearly legible.

If you do not have a passport

If you do not have a passport, you cannot apply for an Egypt e-visa. ID cards, emergency passports, diplomatic passports or residence permits are not accepted to apply for an e-visa to Egypt. A regular passport is always the best option to travel outside Europe. If you do not want to or cannot have a passport, contact the embassy or consulate to find out if you can use another type of visa. In most cases, this involves a series of requirements, a different application procedure and higher costs.

Requirements for your itinerary

In order to apply for a your Egypt visa, you must fill in at least one overnight address in Egypt in the application form, but you don't need to have booked accomodation, flight or cruise tickets yet. You don't need to know your exact date of arrival, either. However, your stay must fall within the validity period of the Egypt visa.

If you do not know the arrival date yet

You need to fill in an estimated date of arrival in your visa application form. However, you can deviate from this. If your application has already been approved, you may arrive in Egypt up to 30 days before your estimated date of arrival. Bear in mind that you must also leave the country in the 60 days following the expected date of arrival. You can stay in Egypt for a maximum of 30 consecutive days.

Itinerary

Please note that you must have a known itinerary upon arrival in Egypt that you must be able to show on request. Keep your travel itinerary in your hand luggage or digitally on your phone, laptop or tablet. It doesn't need to be a detailed itinerary. However, you must be able to show your booking confirmations for each overnight stay in Egypt. You must also be able to produce a booking confirmation for your return flight and for all domestic flights, if aplicable.

Staying with friends or family

If you plan to stay with friends or family you will not have a hotel booking confirmation, but you must be able to show a letter of invitation on arrival in Egypt. Ask in advance to the person you are staying with in Egypt if they can write a letter of invitation. This can be a simple letter, but it must include least the following:

  • The full name of each traveller in your party
  • The full name of the person in Egypt you are staying with
  • The address of the friends or family you are staying with
