Provide a photo or scan of your passport

After completing the online application form for the Egypt visa, you must submit a scan or photo of your passport. You can submit the passport scan online, so you donʼt have to send it by mail. You can do this from your computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. After you have completed the application form, you will receive an e-mail which tells you how to submit the photo or scan. If you open that email from your phone, you can simply select a photo of your passport that you took with your phone.

The immigration authorities in Egypt are very strict with assessing your passport scan. The passport must be in full view. Even a thumb covering part of your passport can cause problems. All the text on your passport must also be clearly legible. So be very careful.

If you do not have a passport

It is not possible to apply for an Egypt e-visa if you do not have a passport. Do you only have an ID card, emergency passport, diplomatic passport or residence permit? Then you cannot apply for an e-visa to Egypt. For travel outside the European Union, it is always recommended to travel with a passport. If you do not want to or cannot, ask an embassy or consulate whether you can use another type of visa. In most cases, this involves different conditions, a different application procedure and different costs.

Requirements for your itinerary

In order to apply for a visa to Egypt, you must indicate at least one overnight address in Egypt in the application form. You do not need to have booked an overnight stay there yet. You also don’t have to book a flight or cruise ticket to apply for your visa. You also do not have to know exactly when you will travel. However, your stay must fall within the period of validity of the Egypt visa.

If you do not know the arrival date yet

In the visa application form, you fill in an estimated arrival date. You may deviate from this later. You may arrive in Egypt up to 30 days earlier than your stated estimated date of arrival, if your application has already been approved at that time. You must leave Egypt no later than 60 days after the anticipated arrival date you entered. You can stay in Egypt for a maximum of 30 consecutive days.

Itinerary on arrival

Please note that you must have made a travel plan upon arrival in Egypt. You must be able to show this travel plan when asked. Therefore, keep your travel planning in your hand luggage. You can also do this digitally on your phone, laptop or tablet. Your travel planning does not have to be very detailed. However, in any event, you must be able to show the booking confirmations for each overnight stay in Egypt. You must also be able to hand over a booking confirmation for the return flight and for all domestic flights, if you need them.

Staying with friends or family

Are you going to stay overnight with friends or family? Then you cannot show a hotel booking for those nights. To be able to show that you have booked accommodation for each night, you must be able to show a letter of invitation on arrival in Egypt. Ask in advance if the person you are staying with in Egypt can write a letter of invitation. This can be a simple letter. It must contain at least the following:

  • The full name of each traveller in your party
  • The full name of the person in Egypt you are staying with
  • The address of the friends or family you are staying with
