In case you will be travelling to Egypt shortly, you will need a valid visa. For this visa application to travel to Egypt, a number of documents are required. Zo kan een e-visum alleen worden aangevraagd met een geldig paspoort. Daarnaast zijn nog een aantal andere documenten nodig. Daarover leest u meer in dit artikel.

ID card, Irish or UK passport for Egypt visa?

Travellers from the UK, Ireland and most countries in continental Europe need a valid passport for a visit to Egypt. Travellers from Belgium, France, Germany, Italy and Portugal may also visit Egypt using a valid ID card. Please note, the latter is only applicable to the Egypt visa on arrival. Regardless of eligible applicants’ nationality, the evisa can only be applied for prior to departure, and using a passport. All travellers applying for a visa on arrival in Egypt, whether by passport or ID card, will also need a minimum of twenty-five euros cash. Travellers using their ID card should additionally bring two identical, recent passport photos in colour with a light, plain background.

Even travellers who could opt to use a valid identity card for their visa applications are still recommended to use a passport for travel. This is because a European country’s or UK identity card is not accepted throughout Egypt as a valid means of identification. Travelling with just a national identity card, it may prove difficult to access certain services when in the country. This could, for instance, complicate car rental. A valid passport, on the other hand, is always internationally accepted as proof of ID. It is therefore highly recommended to always carry both a valid passport and the Egypt visa when visiting the country.

Visa application before departure

Despite the option to apply for an airport visa on arrival in Egypt, this is not recommended. Opting for this visa, upon arrival you may be likely to experience long waiting lines at airport customs. You would moreover risk visa application rejection, which, even after airport arrival, means you would be denied entry to the country and would have to change travel bookings and/or return home.

It is highly recommended to submit an online visa application before departing to Egypt. Travellers from the UK, Ireland and most countries in continental Europe who hold a valid passport, can apply for the Egypt visa. For all eligible travellers from these countries, it is required that, upon arrival in Egypt, the passport is valid for at least another 6 months. Did you submit your visa application using a passport which validity has expired since? Or have, or would you need to obtain a new passport for a different reason? If so, then please apply for a new visa using the newly issued passport.

Travel documents for Egypt holiday

If you are travelling to Egypt for holidays, or for a visit to family and/or friends, upon arrival in the country you will need to carry the following documents:

  • a passport having an additional validity of at least 6 months from your arrival;
  • a clear overview of your combined flight and/or travel bookings and a reservation for your accommodation (at least one such reservation);
  • a valid visa for each traveller (including for children and accompanied minors);
  • an invitation letter in the event of an overnight stay when visiting family or friends;
  • only when applying for the Egypt sticker visa on arrival, and, when doing so, using a national identity card instead of your passport: two identical (and non-digital) passport photos that were recently taken.

If you opt for an online application, please first take the Egypt e-visa requirements for eligibility and use for travel into account.

Travel documents for work in Egypt, or for an internship in the country

If you need to travel for work in Egypt, or for an internship, additional documents such as a meditation or invitation letter issued by the employer for the job placement, a secondment or internship agreement, and/or a copy of the placement decision, are required. In this case, moreover, you will also need to hold the original documents as mentioned here above. A work visa for Egypt, or this same visa for an internship in the country, cannot be applied for through this website. In case this is the visa you require for your stay, please contact the Egypt embassy.

e-Visa.ie is a commercial and professional visa agency, and supports travellers in obtaining, among others, the Egypt visa. e-Visa.ie acts as an intermediary and is in no way part of any government. You can also apply for a visa directly with the immigration service (25 USD per visa, via visa2egypt.gov.eg). However, not with our level of support. If you submit your application via e-Visa.ie, our support centre is available to you 24/7. In addition, we manually check your application and all the documents you provide before submitting it to the immigration authorities on your behalf. If we suspect any errors or omissions while doing so, we will personally contact you to ensure that your application can still be processed quickly and correctly. To use our services, you pay us 25 USD in consular fees, which we pay to the immigration service on your behalf, as well as € 31,85 in service fees as compensation for our services, including VAT. Our services have saved many travellers from major problems during their trip. Should an application be rejected despite our support and verification, we will refund the full purchase price (unless an application for a previous Egypt visa was rejected for the same traveller).
