Two consecutive trips within 30 days

The e-visa that can be applied for through can be used not only for a single trip but also for two consecutive shorter trips. With the “e-Tourist” visa for India, you can stay in the country for up to 30 consecutive days. Instead of a single 30-day trip, you can also make two separate trips to India with this visa. However, the latter is only allowed if your last departure date from the country falls within 30 days after your first arrival date. If this is not the case, you need a new visa for the second trip.

Validity period India e-visa

The validity period of 30 days for the India tourist visa starts from the moment your application is approved. You can travel to the country directly after the visa is granted. This means that, from the moment of approval, you have 30 days to arrive in India. You can stay in the country for up to 30 days, counting from the first arrival date. This applies to both a single trip and two short, consecutive trips to India, as long as you continue to meet all other requirements as well.

An example: your application is approved on the 1st of July. You can arrive in India on this date but also on 30 July or one of the days in between, for example. If you arrive at the last day of the validity period (in this case, 30 July), you can still stay in India for 30 days counting from this arrival date. In this example, the traveller has to leave India on 28 August at the latest. This rule applies in the case of two separate trips to India with a single visa. Both trips must then take place within 30 days, counting from the first arrival in the country.

Visa validity on arrival at expiry date

The last day you are allowed to arrive in India is shown on the visa next to ‘Date of expiry’. If you arrive in India on this date, your total stay is less than 30 consecutive days, and you meet all other visa requirements, you can stay in India for up to 30 days with your visa. How long you can stay in India, therefore, depends on your arrival date and not the issuance date of your visa.

Application on hold?

In the application form, you have to fill in your expected arrival date. This information is required to make sure the validity of your visa has not yet expired on the date you arrive in India. If you are not travelling to India in the next three weeks, puts your application on hold until three weeks before your expected arrival date. This is to ensure you receive an unusable visa. Three weeks before your departure, your application will be processed. From then on, you will receive your visa, in most cases, within 7 days. Always make sure you have submitted your application completely and correctly to avoid delays.

Submit application earlier or change details

Because your application is put on hold when necessary, you can submit your visa application for India at any given moment.
