The Indonesian authorities introduced a mandatory health declaration, the so-called STATUSEHAT Health Pass, at the end of August. This way, the country hopes to prevent a further spread of the mpox-virus. You can fill in this health declaration online, just like the e-visa for Indonesia, which you can also apply for online.

Reason for introducing the health declaration

The Indonesian government decided to introduce the mandatory health declaration after an announcement by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on 14 August 2024. The WHO classifies the outbreak of the mpox-virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and a number of other African countries as an international crisis. The Indonesian authorities hope to prevent a further spread of the virus by introducing the health declaration. In past years, various countries had similar mandatory declarations related to the coronavirus.

Mpox, also known as monkeypox, is an infectious disease, causing symptoms such as a rash, fever, headache, muscle ache, back pain and swollen lymph nodes. The virus is transmitted through close contact with another person who has mpox. Although mpox has so far been signalled mostly in African countries, the WHO is warning about a global outbreak of the virus.

Mandatory entry requirement for Indonesia

Since 27 August 2024, all persons who arrive in Indonesia have to fill in the SATUSEHAT Health Pass. This also applies to minors, aircrew and Indonesian citizens. The health declaration may be filled from 48 hours before departure to Indonesia. You can do this online on Indonesia’s Ministry of Health website.

Besides the health declaration, travellers still have to apply for a visa for Indonesia. You can do this fully online, using a digital application form. After filling in the visa application form, you have to submit a number of documents. That includes a digital photograph, a scan or photo of the passport and a confirmation of the return flight, proving that the traveller in question will leave Indonesia again. The Indonesia visa is issued 7 days later per e-mail, on average. Travellers have to print the visa themselves so that they can show it on arrival in Indonesia.

Fill in SATUSEHAT online

Travellers have to enter their personal details and details about their trip and flight in the health declaration form. The required details include the name, phone number and passport number, the arrival date, arrival location, flight number and seat number on the plane. Next, you have to answer whether you have any symptoms of a mpox infection, such as fever, swollen lymph nodes or a rash. You also have to answer whether you were in contact with primates or rodents in the past three weeks, or whether you had contact with a person who is or was infected with the virus. Finally, you have to fill in all the countries you visited in the previous three weeks.

A QR code is generated after you submit the form. You have to show this QR code on arrival in Indonesia. You are required to monitor your health even after your arrival in Indonesia to check whether you develop any symptoms related to the virus. If you develop any symptoms of a mpox disease within three weeks after arrival, you should notify the closest health care facility in Indonesia and present your QR code there.
