Applying for an electronic visa for Egypt is generally easy. There is, however, a possibility that you will receive a notification saying that an application with the same passport data already exists. On this page you can find out what this notification means and what can be done to still apply for the visa for Egypt.

Presenting an application

If you submit your visa application on e-Visa.ie, it will first be revised by an English-speaking visa expert. Only after this check, the application will be forwarded to the Egyptian immigration services. The immigration services will determine whether the visa can be granted or not. By far, in most cases, this will happen without any problems, and the applicant will receive the visa for Egypt within 11 days on average.

It may however occur that e-Visa.ie receives a notification saying that an application already exists for the filled in passport number. This means that the applicant had already presented an application, or started one. This can either be with the Egyptian government or a different visa agency.

Earlier application possibly not completed

The notification that an application already exists for a certain applicant can also appear if the earlier application was not (yet) completed or paid for. That is because of the way the digital application system of Egyptian immigration services operates. The system saves filled in data in between sessions. As soon as a name, date of birth, and passport number have been entered, the system can already recognise the person in question.

The fact that the Egyptian system works this way is not always convenient because information from uncompleted applications is also saved. This is also the case when no payment has been made and no visa has been granted yet. Unfortunately, it is then no longer possible to apply for an e-visa for Egypt elsewhere with the same data.

Forwarding the application to immigration services

If the visa application for Egypt s submitted using the digital application form on e-Visa.ie, then the presented data will not be shared with the Egyptian immigration services until all the required information is filled in completely and correctly. Therefore, the application will not reach the immigration services until it is completed.

A few contact details, travel details, and details on the traveller need to be filled in on the application form. Furthermore, the applicant is presented with some background questions. One of these questions is as follows: “Has another application form for the Egypt visa been filled in for this traveller (partially or completely) on another website?” In case this question is answered with “Yes”, it is no longer possible for the traveller in question to submit a visa application for Egypt via this website.

Possible solutions for double application

Even is the traveller answers the above-mentioned security question with “No” accidentally, the application still cannot be processed. However, if we are notified of an already existing application for a certain traveller, one of our visa specialists will immediately contact the applicant. There will then be three possible solutions to the problem:

  • The first option is to finish the application that was started on the other website by completing the form with the last missing information, and fulfilling the payment there.
  • The second option would be to apply for a visa on arrival (VOA) upon arriving in Egypt. With this option you should, however, take into account the waiting times that come with this visa, which can be a couple of hours. Contrary to the Visa on Arrival, the e-visa for Egypt is received before departure, letting you start your travels without concerns.
  • Another option is to apply for a physical visa at the Egyptian embassy in your country. This option is pricier and will take up a lot more of your time than applying for an e-visa, since the physical visa requires you to go to the embassy. That is why this option is normally not recommended unless it is not possible for someone to complete the application that was started online. Those who are ineligible for the e-visa must also apply for a physical visa.
