The number of domestic and foreign tourists that visit Cambodia has risen substantially. This is in part due to the traditional new year, the so called Khmer New Year. This led to a rise of 67 percent in the number of tourists in Cambodia to 4,72 million visitors.

This is according to numbers published by the Ministry of Tourism in Cambodia. Most tourists stayed in the country for three days.

More international travellers to Cambodia

There hasn’t just been an increase in domestic tourism, foreign tourists are also increasingly travelling to Cambodia. There were about 83000 travellers to the country during the Khmer new year. This is twice the number of tourists compared to last year.

Furthermore, 3 million locals visited the Buddhist temples in the country, according to the Minister of Tourism, Thong Khon. The traditional new year of the Khmer in Cambodia takes place between 14 and 16 april.

Safe travel

These days, travelling to Cambodia is becoming increasingly attractive for foreign tourists. The Ministry of Tourism takes great effort to make travel for tourists as safe as possible, so they can travel to Cambodia without fear. Peace and political stability are the keywords that explain the increase in tourism to Cambodia, according to the minister.

Improved standards

According to minister Thong Khon of Tourist it is clear that the situation in Cambodia is steadily improving. "The standards of living are continiously improving. Last year, many domestic and foreign tourists were able to celebrate the traditional new year without trouble. This is a reflection of the identity of Cambodia", said the minister

Flying to Cambodia

Travellers headed to Cambodia are required to apply for the mandatory visa. This applies to all travellers, including children; they too need to possess their own passport and visa. Applying for a Cambodia visa only takes a few minutes and costs € 64,95 per person.

All inhabitants of Europe are required to possess this mandatory visa. When you apply for a Cambodia visa it means that the government of Cambodia is providing you with a travel permit. This permit is issued to travellers that wish to stay in the country for less than 30 days. People that want to celebrate the traditional new year this year can use this visa to attend this event. Nowadays, travellers won’t need to visit the Cambodia embassy. Everything can be done online, making it equally accessible to everyone, regardless of where you live.

Cambodia visa requirements

A Cambodia visa is valid for a maximum of 90 days, and it can be used to stay in the country for 30 days. Take note: the validity duration starts the moment the visa is approved by the immigration service of Cambodia, and not when you arrive in the country.

A visa for Cambodia is generally approved within 24 hours after applying. On rare occasions it can take a few days. It can be used to enter and leave the country once. If you leave and wish to return at a later date, even if the visa is still valid, you will need to apply for a new visa.

The Cambodia visa is specifically meant for tourists that want to go on a holiday. Various documents need to be taken along when travelling to Cambodia. First and foremost is the passport. This needs to be valid for at least six more months from the day of arrival in Cambodia.

Secondly, the Cambodia visa itself needs to be printed twice. One copy is handed over on arrival, the second needs to be presented when leaving. There are only a select few locations where the traveller is allowed to arrive in the country.

Cambodia visa application

Applying for a Cambodia visa can be done in three simple steps. Firstly, the application form needs to be filled in. Next, the payment has to be made. This can be easily done with Visa, MasterCard, American Express and PayPal. The costs are € 64,95, including for children.

After the form has been completed, a passport photo and a scan of the passport need to be uploaded. This can be easily done through our website. The application is then manually checked and processed. This way, you can be absolutely sure that everything in the application is correct. Regardless, not all errors can be tracked down, making it important to double-check all the information yourself.

It is recommended to apply for the Cambodia visa thirty days before departure. This makes it so the visa is valid for 60 days. As you can only stay in Cambodia for 30 days, this leaves you plenty of space to adjust the date of arrival if needed.
