Travellers with an e-visa cannot currently travel from Thailand to Cambodia overland. They may only enter Cambodia via one of the three international airports or one of the border crossings with Laos or Vietnam.

Arrival locations accepting the Cambodia e-visa

One of the requirements to travel with a Cambodia e-visa is that travellers may only arrive in the country at certain locations designated by the Cambodian government. These include three international airports and four land border crossings. Travellers holding an e-visa are not allowed to enter Cambodia via a seaport. The electronic visa is thus not suitable for cruisers who want to dock in Cambodia.

Until recently, there were seven locations accepting travellers with an e-visa: the airports of Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville and the border crossings Bavet (near Vietnam), Tropaeng Kreal (near Laos), Cham Yeam (near Thailand) and Poi Pet (near Thailand). The last two border crossings with Thailand have recently been closed to holders of an e-visa.

Thailand border posts closed to arrivals with e-visas

Since August 19, 2025, travelling overland from Thailand to Cambodia with an e-visa is not possible anymore. The border crossings at Poi Pet (in Banteay Meanchey province) and Cham Yeam (near the city of Koh Kong) are closed to travelers with an e-visa until further notice. The Cambodian immigration service has not announced when the border posts will reopen.

Currently, travelers with an e-visa can only enter the country by plane or via the border with Vietnam or Laos. It is still possible to leave Cambodia via one of the border crossings with Thailand. In addition to Cham Yeam and Poi Pet, travelers can also leave Cambodia via Chorm, Daung, Prom, and O Smach.

Political tensions between Cambodia and Thailand

Cambodia and Thailand have been embroiled in a simmering border conflict for years, which flares up regularly. The conflict regards the border territories between both countries. The conflict arose after the colonial era, when France established the border between Thailand and Cambodia. The area around the Preah Vihear temple, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, is particularly controversial. Although a ceasefire has now been established, it is still not recommended to visit the border area between Cambodia and Thailand.
